In an Invoice to Mr Cary I have directed all the goods for Miss Custis's use to be got from you as I approvd of your last years choice - Such things as Misses of her age usually wear here I have sent for; but if you can get those which may be more genteel and proper for her, I shall have no objections to it, provided it is done with frugality, for as she is only nine years old a superfluity, or expence in dress would be altogether unnecessary - you will please to observe that all her things is to be charged separate from mine altho both accounts will be paid you by Robt. Cary Esq & Co.

I have also ordered a few things for my own use together with a pair of stays which I beg may be very good, easy made, and very thin, - The Ruffles you sent last year I have kept myself and desired Mr Cary to pay you for them - Mr Washington wrote Mr Cary in February last to purchase of you a french necklace & earings for me - if they are not already sent, I woud rather choose a blew Turkey stone Necklace and Earings sent in their place if the price does not exceed two Guineas -

Dear Sister                                         Mount Vernon April 6,1762

Your kind Letter by the man that brought the syder round I received the 4th of ult which gave me great conscern to hear of Mr Bassett being so unwell but as you inform me he has lost his fevour makes no doubt but he is recovered long before this time it was a very great disappointment to me your not comeing as we had so long expected you but a visit from you will yett be most acceptable to me, as we may sertainly hope for fine weather now after so much bad as we have had. I have had the pleasure of hearing of you by several that has come from below but had no opportunity to write or would not neglect it as it is the only pleasure absence can afford me - I have had a very dark time since I came home. I believe it was owing to the severe weather we have had. I think I never knew such a winter as it has been the only comfort was that Mr Washington and my children have had their health very well. I think Patsy has been hardier than Ever she was till lately they have boath had colds and fevers - 1 just heard of this opportunity by Capt Posey, if my good man shoud be come a way you may send a line to me by him as he lives close by

I am very sorry to hear my mamma is still complaining and her staying at home so much as she doze I believe is a great hurt to her I hope she is happier at home than she seemed to be when I was down I never think of her but with consern as she appears always to be uneasy I shoud be glad you woud take care of Betsy and keep her in proper order she has her own way so much at home I am affraide she will be quite spoild - It is with the greates pleasure I hear the well fair of you and your little babys - pray give my duty to my Mamma and love to Brothers and sisters and except the same from Dear Nancy your most Affectionate

We the Subscribers have pursuant to the Order of the Honble the General Court examined the Accounts of George Washington Esqr. against the Estate of Daniel Parke Custis Esqr. deceased and his infant children John Parke Custis and Martha Parke Custis to whom the said George Washington is Guardian and find the same fairly and justly stated and prooved by proper Vouchers and have therefore Settled the Ballances as due April last according to the Several Accounts annexed. Given under Our hands this 5th day of November 1761.

Julious comes for Betty - I hardly know in what manner to return suitable thanks to you and Mr Green for the troble you have taken upon this occasion - it was a near mistake her being Left but as I am persuaded apologies of this nature are altogether unnecessary to the person I am addressing I shall cease to make more.

Mrs Colvill and niece with Doctr Laurie dind hear yesterday and in the evening Mr W-n took his vomit - but it did not worke him well today he has begun with the Barke & and continues it till an ounce is taken.

I gave Patsy the mercury last night it has worked her twice. Our ears are mending very fast.

Our compliments are offered to Mr Green Miss Bolan and am Dr Madam

With great concern I bore this disappointment of not coming to you as I promised you, I have pleased myself with coming and would be very happy with you and family but the hooping coughs has put an end to all hopes for some time I have had it so bad that I could not go out of the house this four weeks past, the children are getting well but did not care to carry them so long a jurney and to houses where the coughs had not been and carrying children with so troublesome a disorder is of no pleasure in winter and I considered your dear little girl had not had it, I pray give my love to Mr. Bassett & Betsy and accept the same from dear Nancy, your most
